The number of occasions when it's possible to take a decent image with a 2000mm equiv lens are extremely limited, due to heat shimmer, atmospheric haze, camera shake, limitations of sensor in low light etc etc. I assume you're referring to the gallery as a whole and not my 4K video which you replied to, as the D70 is incapable of 4K video, or even 4K stills. ;-)

When the focus system hits, results look very good. When it misses, you're left with blur, or something that looks more like a watercolor than a photo (see above). Overall, exposures tend to be well-balanced when using the all-purpose metering setting, while the automatic white balance setting is also a good performer under a variety of different lighting conditions. Below it you find the Record, Play, Display, Menu, and Delete buttons, along with a flat command dial. The dial supports additional functions via its directional presses (Flash, EV, Macro, Self-Timer), and has the OK button at its center. It doubles as a tool for menu navigation—the P950 doesn't have a touch screen.

Since 1982, PCMag has tested and rated thousands of products to help you make better buying decisions. See how we test. The 3.2-inch, 921K-dot vari-angle LCD monitor is carried over from the P1000 and is a handy upgrade on the 3-inch monitor found on the P900. Its flip-forward hinge makes selfies a doddle, and it gives an accurate preview of colour and contrast. The only slight bugbear is with most smartphones now having Retina-effect screens which effectively make the boundaries between pixels invisible, you can spot individual pixels on the P950's screen when viewing at a typical distance, making it appear a little low res next to a phone. The Nikon Coolpix P950's Easy Panorama mode allows you to take vertical or horizontal panorama photos simply by moving the camera in the direction of the on-screen guides. Multiple shots are then combined into a single panorama photo. The angle of view can be selected from 180° (normal) and 360° (wide). Easy Panorama - 180° Other top-plate controls include the Fn button—it's programmable, and adjusts the continuous drive mode by default. The On/Off button, Mode dial, and the main command dial round out the top controls.

Nikon Coolpix P950 review - Digital Photography Review

Still images: JPEG, RAW (NRW) (Nikon’s own format); Movies: MP4 (Video: H.264/MPEG-4 AVC, Audio: AAC stereo)

Users can rely on the P950 to photograph life’s most unique subjects with incredible accuracy and focus thanks to its Target Finding AF capabilities, 7 fps continuous shooting and ISO sensitivity up to 6400. A great option for photographers of all skill levels, the COOLPIX P950 features user-friendly controls alongside an intuitive menu system and a 2359k-dot EVF, making it easier to review and capture one-of-a-kind shots. Using dedicated Bird-Watching and Moon Modes, photographers can effortlessly snap photos of their world and beyond. The new P950 also adds RAW (NRW) photo recording, an enhanced high-resolution electronic viewfinder and Nikon SnapBridge 2,3,4 to seamlessly share images or remotely control the camera. I honestly haven't shot with it for quite awhile. And truly, almost exclusively moon shots. It's tough to shoot anything during the day when there's enough light because at 3,000mm your subject is probably far away, and therefore suffering too much atmospheric shimmer. But on a monopod you could shoot still animals 50m away. But any movement at all with that kind of length is very tough to deal with. And honestly, the AF ain't great. Even Sonys can focus better. Up to 4x (angle of view equivalent to that of approx. 8000 mm lens in 35 mm [135] format); Up to 3.6x when recording movies with [2160/30p] (4K UHD) or [2160/25p] (4K UHD) The P950's quoted battery life has been reduced when compared to the predecessor. This is presumably a result of the higher resolution viewfinder, with 290 shots per charge quoted, compared to 360 for the P900. Diffraction isn't a myth, it is a physical fact. The P950 can certainly take decent shots at shorter focal lengths where the max aperture is larger thus diffraction effects are less. Even if it had a theoretical perfect lens, it could never deliver sharp images at the extreme of its zoom due to diffraction.
