Cameron wrote the script for Avatar in 1995, before Titanic, but the technology wasn’t there to make the film he saw in his mind’s eye.

Praised as the film that changed worldwide audiences' perception of 3D films forever, Gravity is a landmark achievement. Thankfully there's very little fluff and taken together these supplements serve to make an already impressive production that much more. There's also several effective unsubtle-but-not-intrusive symbolic touches, including a rebirth cycle ignited by a beautiful Zero-G foetal coil. Over the next four years, that image evolved into Gravity: a breathtaking cinematic marvel, a stunning technical achievement and an incredibly powerful human drama worthy of winning every one of the ten Academy Awards for which it's nominated.Meanwhile Kowalksi, the veteran floater, nonchalantly drifts about smirking while all hell breaks loose around him. While stars may appear as though they are floating just outside of our atmosphere, the truth is that outer space is just that: space. In fact, in Gravity, there wasn’t gratuitous use of objects popping out in front of the screen; rather, 3D was used to create the depth of space. For me, the use of 3D in 'Life of Pi' was a little more revelatory, but 'Gravity - 3D' is eye popping.

The survival structure of the story pushes Bullock to her limits, evidencing both a mental and physical strain to the seemingly endless catastrophes that befall her character. For some, it will be a profoundly religious film, with themes of salvation, redemption and restoration surging beneath the surface. From a technical standpoint, whether or not you love, loathe, like, hate, or don't care about this movie, 'Gravity is a masterclass. Business objectives be damned, at the end of the day movies are hugely subjective emotional experiences (aka ART). Years from now, it's one of those films about which you'll say, "I can remember the first time I saw that.

Stone transforms from an everywoman into a veteran astronaut, which is not only awesome, but also believable as we learn more and more about her training. But despite the masterful execution, dramatic visuals, unique sound design and incredible editing, Gravity is a masterpiece in technical engineering alone and has surprisingly hollow characterisation and a weak narrative. It's like inviting people around my house to watch a movie, and Big Screen has always had the option to share movies or your desktop. A silent movie would be pretty boring, so they did two things that create a unique sound experience. When this visual overload is combined with the movie's complex diegesis via IMAX sound, it's truly staggering.Gravity' was co-written and directed by Alfonso Cuarón, an extremely talented filmmaker who has helmed a string of visually dynamic movies -- 'Children of Men', 'Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban', 'Y Tu Mama Tambien', 'A Little Princess', and 'Great Expectations' (1998) -- in multiple genres.

The dialogue here is awkwardly clunky at times and laughably ridiculous at others – particularly during a scene where Bullock is instructed by Clooney to stop talking to conserve her rapidly depleting oxygen reserves – only for him to completely contradict himself five seconds later by firing off a nonstop barrage of questions at her (in an effort to keep her calm) – thus forcing her to unnecessarily deplete her oxygen supplies – what? Parks — who is supervising the 3D on Doug Liman‘s Edge of Tomorrow — likens native and postconverted stereo to the creative choice between special (in-camera) and visual (produced in the computer) effects.Ryan must gather her resolve and all the resources at her disposal to make it back to Earth and reconcile with her young daughter. is no longer a gag or a gimmick, and as the technology continues to improve it will serve as just another tool in the filmmaker’s toolkit. If you want to watch Gravity in 3D then I have it and could run a Big Screen theatre for you to watch it one evening. It starts slow, ramps up quickly, and though it never really lets the audience off the hook, knows when to give us a moment to breath, or a moment to hope, or a moment to give up and accept all is lost.
